Canadian Streetcars, Trolley Coaches, and More

J. Leonard Bachelder takes us a to Canada. He will show primarily photos of Toronto Transit Commission streetcars from 1961 through 1990, mostly from before 1980, with Peter Witt cars seen in regular service alongside PCCs. All streetcar lines in operation in those years will be included, along with a few shots of subway trains and trolley coaches. We'll also see trolley coaches in other Ontario cities in the '60s and '70s - Cornwall, Hamilton, Kitchener, and Thunder Bay. For teasers, Lenny will present a few views of electric freight in Cornwall.

From the President BSRAtv on YouTube 5706 Restoration

Welcome to the official website of the Boston Street Railway Association!

We were founded in 1959 to preserve a Boston Type 5 streetcar, number 5706, which we are actively pursuing right now.

In addition, as an educational non-profit organization, we preserve Boston Transit History in its many forms through our books, which we publish periodically, and our bimonthly news magazine, Roll Sign. We also field many questions from the public, from transit industry authors, and from the news media.

We have over 900 members from many states and foreign countries, and we invite you to join using the membership form further on in this website. All of our work is done by volunteers, and there are many opportunities for those of you who are interested in our programs.

Come on board, our modest annual dues are the fare, and the trip is a fascinating journey through history. Enjoy!

The restoration of this historic Boston streetcar rolls along!

Type 5 #5706 served the Boston Elevated Railway and its successor, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, for 35 years. Today, the BSRA manages and funds the restoration of this historic car, with the intent of eventually operating the car at a museum or other locations for special occasions.
